Bandhavgarh National Park

Situated at a distance of 195 km fromJabalpur and 225 km from Khajuraho, the Bandhavgarh National Park is a premier wildlife preserve in the Vindhya mountain range of Central India. Corbett had the proud distinction of being the chosenvenue for the inauguration of Project Tiger in India. The rich bio-diversity of the Reserve is partly attributed to the variety of habitat found here. Due to thelocation of the Reserve in the foothills of the Central Himalayas, both Himalayan and peninsular flora and fauna is found in the Reserve. Further east along the Terai, the DudhwaNational Park, which is also a Tiger Reserve, is located in the district of Lakhimpur -Kheri, very close to the Nepal border. The 498.29 sq. km. Park has fine sal forests and extensive grasslands. Tall coarse grass sometimes forming impenetrable thickets, swampy depressions and lakes characterise the wetlands of the Park. Read more

Kanha National Park

Kanha National Park, a Tiger Reserve located in the state of MadhyaPradesh, the reserve covers an area of 1950 sq. km. Established as a reserve forest in 1879, it was declared a National Park in 1955 and a tiger reserve in 1973 under Project Tiger. The undulating terrain of the Park consists of flat-topped hills and meadow-like grasslands known as Maidans. The successiveelevations of the valleys present a step-like formation in the east-west direction. The forest is formed of 50% dry deciduous woodland on the hilltops and slopes. Read more

Lying along the mighty BrahmaputraRiver, the Kaziranga National Park covers an area of about 430 sq. km. Its swamps and grasslands with tall thickets of elephant grass and patches of evergreen forest, support the largest number of rhino in the subcontinent. It was an alarming depletion in their numbers, due to hunting and poaching that led to the conservation of this area in 1926. In 1940, Kaziranga was declared a sanctuary. Read more
